About
THE TOFTY BOYS

Meet the younger generation of boys

We have two brothers age 10 months old. Briar is golden sable and Bracken is shaded red. They are both here for several reasons, first and foremost we love each boy individually because they are superb dogs, plus both carry rare haplotypes in the dLA class 2 area of the immune system. This is vitally important as the majority of Rough Collie are devoid of any diversity in this area. Both dogs are genetically clear of testable genetic mutations. Bracken carries the 'smalc 02301 and briar carries two copies of 01301 a copy of which he will pass on to every one of his future progeny. Aside from this wonderful news, Both dogs bring a new Y chromosome to the genetic table. Both have friendly personable characters. The left photo shows Briar WICANTOFT DRAGONFLY. Bottom of this page is a photo of his shaded red litter brother Bracken WICANTOFT DRAGON RIDER
Their sire is WICANTOFT PENDRAGON 'Copper'
Their dam is WICANTOFT ROSEBUD 'Mink'
Briar reminds me strongly of some of the Beulah Rough Collie males when of similar age, especially those born circa 1940-1950
Bracken is reminiscent of some of the earlier ancestors of the Rough Collie.

WICANTOFT SEABISCUIT 'Barley B' is a son of WICANOFT DOG ROSE and a Rough Collie dam named WICANI WITCH GLAMOUR.
Barley lives with a friend in Scotland. He is genetically free of CEA, MDR1 and DM.
All of our males, plus Barley B are passed as elite stud dogs for use by people who want to share the joy of the TOFTY and help towards building a better future,
I am so excited by the TOFTY project, these dogs are proving to be everything I had hoped for and much more.
I quickly discovered that building a new breed doesn't happen overnight. If i include too many Rough Collies too quickly I lose what I gained. Each dog must be genetically tested rigorously to ensure diversity is maintained. This is a very costly program. It costs us around £400 to do the essential testing on each dog. Of necessity the gene pool needs diversity within itself. Not the false 'low inbreeding level' based on pedigree but the true genetic coefficient. We feed the finest foods and provide a lifestyle that keeps our dogs happy.
